This listening for native Spanish speakers is special: two voices, a native English speaker and a Spanish native. I will make the same experiment with the next Spanish listening. The text will be added after the corrections.

Muchas gracias Heidita y Valerie por esta iniciativa....

Fast Food - My Transcripton

Fast food is food which is prepared and served quickly at outlets courts fast food restaurants. It is a multibillion dollar industry which continues to grow rapidly in many countries. Fast food outlets are take away or take out providers often with the drive thru service which allows customers to order and pick up food from their cars but most also have a sitting area in which customers can eat the food on their privacies (???). Nearly from his inceptions fast food has been designed to be eaten on the go and often does not require traditional dominant cutlery.

Common menu items at fast food outlets include fish and chips, sandwiches, pitos(???), hamburgers, fried chicken, french fries, chicken nuggets, taccos, pizza and ice cream.

Although many fast food restaurants offers slower food like chile, mashed potatoes and salads. However even the western style chinnese cuisine is most often served as takes away, it is seldom considered to be fast food.

The modern history of fast food in America is connected with the history of the hamburger as the earliest fast food outlets sold hamburgers as their primary product.

The American company White Castle is generally credited with opening the first fast outlet in Topeka, Kansas in 1921, selling hamburgers for 5 cents a piece. A manner(???) innovation the company allowed customers to see the food be in prepared. White Castle later added five halls to each feed party(???) to increase a service area and speed cooking times. White Castle was succesful from his inceptions and spun(???) numerous competitors.

In recent decades Mexican style food like taccos and burritos as well as pizza has also became tables of fast food culture.

McDonald's an outer fast food suplier opened his first franchise restaurant in 1955, it has became a phenomenally succesful enterprise in terms of financial growing, brand name recognition and worldwide expansion.

Ray Kroc upon the franchise in license from the McDonald's brothers pioneered many concepts which emphasizes standardization, it introduces uniform products, identical in all respects at each outlet to increase sales, at the same time Kroc also insisted on cutting food costs as much as possible eventually using the McDonald's cooperation size to force suppliers to conform to this (???)

"dominant cutlery" is a phrase you would almost never hear a person say. It refers to silverware, or spoons, forks, and knives. - fatchocobo, Apr 22, 2010

By the way, you see at the door of the shops: open- closed. But when you say that a shop has opened, you should say "opened", but then you should say that the shop is open. Is that it?.

Una cosa Heidita, ¿La idea sería comparar un acento americano con un inglés o un australiano o un canadiense? El acento de un español hablando en inglés no sería una variedad que se fuera a utilizar, al menos creo yo.

Valerie sounds like she has a bit of a southern US accent to me.I am laughing hearing Heidita in her formal British accent say the words "White Castle".We always make jokes about the gastronomic effect of "sliders".Greasy little hamburgers.I like the format, the sound was good. I would have no idea if a Spanish speaker would think this sounded "fast". To me it sounded measured and well paced.

I wish I knew you were going to mention White Castle when I drove back to Kentucky last month. My mother lives there. I will ask her to take a picture of a White Castle so you can post it on this thread.

I, too, noticed a very slight southern accent on the part of Valerie. I would guess South Carolina. (This is not a criticism, just a notation). I was also very surprised at Heidita's perfected upper-crust London accent. And as it has been mentioned earlier, "Como locutora." Both were done at a good pace and not what I would ever consider fast, and both very understandable for any lower-intermediate EFL student or higher. (I did, however, find the topic a bit humorous since the industry discussed is one the reasons there are so many fat people in America. So foreigners, beware!). Over all, I think this could be a very helpful language-learning tool. Valerie and Heidita have done a superb job!

Hola Heidita

Muchas gracias,

Pablo

I have a White Castle coffee cup, by the way. I will never see White Castle the same after hearing those two lovely voices. The American style accent of Valerie, and Heidita's British accent. Both were great! Congratulations on not rolling the "R's" especially in burrito.grin You both sound very authoritative and confident. To los estadounidenses the British accent always seem to add a touch of class. I could only add one picture here so I will answer again with a picture of White Castle food. It is quite tasty but not very filling, in my opinion. Hola a todas studying English. Keep up the good work, friends.
