Confusing sentence structure

Question

It's very strange - I can understand every single word when I look at them separately, but I can't get the correct meaning ( the translator didn't help), I think about lots of variants of it when imagine the context in my own language. Could you help me translating this?

...y aun los objetos perdidos desde hacía mucho tiempo aparecían por donde más se les había buscado,...

When translating things from Spanish to English you really have to consider how we would actually communicate an idea instead of trying to do it word for word.

Even though "desde hacía mucho tiempo" technically means "since a long time ago" but we wouldn't actually say that.

And even the objects that had been lost for a long time appeared where they had been searched for most
