This is a real killer again, I hope you like it. A sordid topic by my one and only Alvite, he is a master.

I guess you all know the film, The Big Heat, in Spanish: Los sobornados, strange translation. Try your best, this is difficult, but those who participate are used to it, and those who try for the first time will find this kind of thread really challenging.

Only for advanced students.wink

No puedo enfriar.

Women like these

Bewitched by the psychdelic attraction of fate after having seen Gloria Graham for the umpteenth time in in "The Big Heat", I no longer have any doubt: A woman like this it is only worth knowing if you are sure to have reasons to regret having known her. She was not truely beautiful, nor as well dressed as others, yet it is easy to believe that any man would lose his head over her. She had something in her dark eyes that made her seem elusive, evasive, or by implication, guilty. And vindictive.

Girls like Debby Marsh in "The Big Heat" never relate to men that make them think. They look out for their own interests and seldom consider a prudent decision that does not agree with their impulse. I have met a few less glamourous versions --------grin---------of her in sleazy hostess bars. Once I reproached one for trying to dump out of the blue ---------great--------a man who had been bankrupted by her. Her relationship with the guy turned out to be boring and she just needed a reason to make the break up look like a justifiable revenge against him.

"Don't ask me to think and calm down. Common sense has never been my thing, you know? I have to get back at him like this, although it will take years to work out why I have done it. In my life, the only thing that runs cold is the refridgerator".

"But vengeance ... " I wanted to entreat.

"Cut the gibberish - she interrupted me -. Fury is faster than the law. It can't go cold. If it did, it would run the risk that vengeance would degenerate into justice".

In the end, she broke up with him on the phone, while flirting with his replacement.

The loser said nothing. He was a good man, an ordinary bloke, just a victim of a bad choice.

As for me, I resisted the temptation to get involved with her. Although I heaved a sigh of relief at the time, now I think that it was a mistake to avoid her. Eventually I realized that the women who make your life enjoyable are more exciting when, whilst complicating it, they also make it more expensive --nobody got this part, this guy is too sarcastic wink------- My problem was in thinking that there would be no end to the woman's whims until I had run out of money.

Today, I wouldn't have been so wary. It wouldn't bother me if a woman like Debby Marsh told me "End of the line, my dear. All that's left on our train is the smoke from two cigarettes. Don't whinge. Your money will give me a few days; my memory will last you for ever.

Thanks for waiting smile I've done my best, but it's a bit rushed - my life is not running to plan at the moment.

What can I say, Sheila, ----------awesome is the wordbig surprise

Not a literal translation, but here goes:

At least this time you didn't say ¡nothing! jejeje, raspberry

Women like those ones

Entranced by the psychedelically seductive allure of the on-screen human train wreck after having seen Gloria Grahame in “The Big Heat” for about the zillionth time still leaves me without a doubt: A woman like this is only worth knowing if you are sure that she is going to give you reasons to regret having known her. She was no real beauty (true knockout), nor did she set the night on fire with her clothing like other women, and yet it’s believable that any man would go crazy for her. She had a kind of dark look about her that made her seem tricky, dubious or simply, guilty. And vindictive. Women like Debby Marshall in “The Big Heat” never mingle with men that might make them think too deeply. They act selfishly, and rarely does a decision seem sensible to them unless it be guided by some inner urge. I have met quite a few women from houses of ill-repute with less glamor than her. I reproved one on a certain occasion that tried, all of a sudden, to get rid of a man who had been ruined by her. Her relationship with that guy bored her, and she only needed an easy excuse to turn her break-up into a reasonable revenge against him.

“Don’t you tell me to think about things and to cool my jets. Sensibility has never given me good results, you know? I have to get back at him no matter what; even if later it should take years to pinpoint the excuse for having done it to him in the first place. In my entire life, the only thing that works well cool is the ice-box.”

“But vengeance…,” I wanted to interject.

“Quit your lecturing,” she deflected. “Fury is faster than the law. I can’t cool off. If I were to do that, I would run the risk that revenge might become corrupted by fairness.”

No sooner said than done, she broke up with that guy over the telephone while flirting with his replacement. The loser didn’t say anything. He was a good guy, an average Joe, the ordinary victim of a poor choice. For my own part, I resisted the temptation to get tangled up with her. Though, then I breathed a sigh of relief, now I think that it was an error to avoid her. With time, I realized that women that make your life enjoyable are more interesting when, passing through because they complicate your life, they also make life more rewarding.---------while they complicate your life they make ir more expensive------- My problem was in thinking that that woman’s caprices would never end until she had taken all my money. Today I wouldn’t have been so cautious. I wouldn’t care that a woman like Debby Marsh would tell me: “The sky’s the limit. Only the smoke of two cigarettes still remains in our train. ------------this is wrong, look at alba's post--------- Don’t stay--here you misread quejes por quedeswink------: Your money will last me a few days; my memory will last you forever…”

big surprise as usual you surprise me, almost perfect, shame you did not get the end right. Well, I will have to see sheila's translation, I will add some comments at the end of the thread.

red face Gracias Gregsmile

That kind of women

Addicted to the hallucinogenic interest in misfortune, after watching Gloria Grahame in Los Sobomados for the umpteenth time, I'm still without any doubt whatsoever---I would have said: there was no doubt in my mind--------: A woman who think's it's only worthwhile for you to meet her if you are certain she will give you reason to regret having known her. She wasn't a true beauty, nor were her clothes flashy like others--great-------, and on the other hand it's believable that whatever man might lose his mind over her. She had that shady look that made her seem evasive, dubious, or implying guilt. And vindictive. The girls like Debby Marsh of «Los Sobornados» never connect with men that make them think. They do what's convenient for them and rarely consider a decision sensibly but rather obey their impulses.

I've met with her a few times in sordid, off the wall places ----------great--------when she didn't look so hot. One time I trashed someone for her on a certain occasion when she was trying to rid herself, all of a sudden, of a man that she had ruined. Her relationship with that guy turned out to be boring, and I was looking for a reason to turn their breakup into a pretty good thrashing of him. Don't ask me about consideration and cooling off. Common sense never has worked for me, ya know? I have to make it up to him somehow, even though it'll take years to find an excuse to do it.

In my life the only thing that works with cold is the refrigerator. But revenge wanted to butt in. (Cut the crap- I got sidetracked) Fury is quicker than the law. I can't cool off. If I did, I'd run the risk of vengeance being suppressed by justice. Just like that, she broke up with that guy while flirting with the next guy. The loser didn't say squat. -great--------He was a good man, a regular guy, the simple victim of a bad choice. As far as I was concerned, I resisted the temptation to get mixed up with her. Even though I breathed a sigh of relief then, now I believe it was an error to be avoided.

I understood in advance that the women that make life pleasant for me are the most interesting when, while making it more complex, they enrich it. My problem was thinking that to that woman, her whims will never end before I run out of money. Today I wouldn't have been so cautious. I wouldn't mind if a woman like Debby Marsh said to me, "Your search for heaven is over." I'm headed for our train, and I'm down to two cigarettes already. Don't gripe. You give me money for a few days. My memory will last forever.

I always love reading your posts Greg with their little nuggets of gold like, "The loser didn't say squat" - Izanoni1 Same here, Greg, great post, but too many things misunderstood, I tried to correct it...but you got the dialogue wrong...I bolded all the parts that were incorrect, but I agree with Izan, great jobsmile

Women Like Those

Possessed by the poison of fatal attraction after having seen Gloria Grahame in “The Big Heat” for the umpteenth time, I no longer have any doubt that a woman like that is only worth meeting if you are sure that she’s going to give you reason to be sorry that you’ve met her. She wasn’t a real beauty nor did she look as good all dressed up as other women but, nevertheless, it’s believable that any man could go crazy for her. She had something dark in her look that made her seem elusive, dubious or simply guilty. And vengeful.

The girls like Debby Marsh of “The Big Heat” never have anything to do with men that make them think. They do the easiest thing and it’s rare that they consider a decision sensible if it is not impulsive. I’ve seen quite a few with less class than her at sordid “gentlemen’s” clubs. On one occasion, I told a girl off who was out of a whim/all of a sudden breaking up with a man who had gone bankrupt because of her. Her relationship with the guy got boring and she just needed a reason to make her betrayal look like a justified revenge against him. “Don’t ask me to think about things and chill out. Common sense has never worked well for me, you know? One way or another I’ve got to get revenge on him though it’ll take years to come up with a reason for why I did it. In my life the only thing that works when it’s chilled is the refrigerator. “But revenge...,” I jumped in on his behalf. “Stop with that nonsense," she cut me off "Strike while the iron is hot. I can’t cool off. If I did, I'd run the risk of having revenge lowered to the level of justice." When everything was said and done, she broke up with the guy on the telephone while she flirted with his replacement. The one that lost her didn’t say a thing. He was a good man, a normal guy, the simple victim of a bad choice.

As for my part, I resisted the temptation to get together with her. Even though I breathed a sigh of relief at the time, now I think that it was a mistake to avoid her. In time I realized that women who make your life pleasant are more interesting when, in the process of complicating your life, they also make it more expensive/they also make you spend a lot of money on them. My problem was in thinking that that woman would never stop having me cater to her every whim until she had spent all of my money. Today I wouldn’t have been so cautious. It wouldn’t have mattered to me if a woman like Debby Marsh told me, “End of the line, honey. The smoke from two cigarettes is all that’s left coming from our train. Don’t complain. Your money will last me for a few days; the memory of me will last you for a lifetime.”

So, I know that "La furia es mas rápida que la Ley." says "Fury is quicker than the law." but that makes no sense to me whatsoever in English. "Strike while the iron is hot" is a bit of a stretch, I know, but would it work?

Strike while the iron is hot, great, alba, I think the expression is perfect here. Impressive, alba, your translations are really difficult to top and you really got the hang of this guy, always so sarcastic.

HI my friends, I am happy to see that you all got this guy's extreme sarcasm, even though everybody missed this part:

Con el tiempo comprendí que las mujeres que te hacen agradable la vida son más interesantes cuando, de paso que te la complican, también te la encarecen.

encarecer: to make more expensive

He meant to say that a woman is interesting if she complicates your life and you have to spend a lot of money on her.

Alba: “Stop with that nonsense," she cut me off "Strike while the iron is hot. I can’t cool off. If I did, I'd run the risk of having revenge lowered to the level of justice."

Goyo: in sordid, off the wall places......The loser didn't say squat. He was a good man, a regular guy,

Izan: She was no real beauty (true knockout), nor did she set the night on fire with her clothing like other women...

Sheila: Common sense has never been my thing, you know? I have to get back at him like this, although it will take years to work out why I have done it. In my life, the only thing that runs cold is the refridgerator".
