Irregular Progressive Verbs

Question

I have searched all over, but have been unable to find a comprehensive list of irregular forms of Spanish progressive verbs. I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. Thank you.

You can compile your own list as you encounter them, like this:

"ir" --> "yendo"

-er/-ir Verbs Whose Stem Ends in a Vowel : the "iendo" of these verbs will change to "yendo". (leer - leyendo, caer - cayendo, construir - construyendo)

ir Stem Changing Verbs : e-->ie verbs stem change to "i" in the gerund (senter - sintiendo, mentir - mintiendo, divertir - divirtiendo), o-->ue verbs change to "u" (dormir - durmiendo, morir - muriendo), e-->i verbs stem change to "i" (pedir - pidiendo, decir - diciendo)

Could you provide an example of one of these kinds of verbs...a progressive verb. I am not sure I know enough about grammar to know just what that is, but would otherwise be glad to help you look and to thus learn, too.

It occurred to me, by the way that maybe you mean irregular progressive form, rather than progressive verb. If I am right, then would "estoy leyendo" be .....well, almost....an example? (I am not sure that this spelling with a "y" really counts as irregular....

On the other hand, maybe you mean that you need the progressive form of some irregular verbs such as ser, ir, dar, poder, poner, caber, querer, venir, hacer, estar, tener, decir, traer - all of which exhibit some sort of irregularity.

Of those particular few, "ir" builds that progressive form in an irregular way: "estoy yendo" ...I remember reading that "yendo" is called a participle, or maybe a gerund (sorry, my knowledge of grammar and its terminology falls short of what you may need here).

In poder's participle or gerund, the "o" changes to an "u" - pudiendo.
Maybe if you found the list of those verbs whose "o" changes to "u", you would have your list. Consider dormir -> durmiendo; morir -> muriendo.

Check for a list of the "ir" verbs. for which the "e" in the stem changes to "i", too. Consider sentir, -> sintiendo, for example, or mentir -> mintiendo. You should be able to find a list of those easily. Preferir -> prefiriendo fits as does pedir -> pidiendo.
