I think there is a way to explain the argument of a movie, a book and so on.

When someone asks you about that you say: it is about a love story. Then, you follow explaining.

But I would like to know if there is other way. For example: deal.

The translation of "deal" is confusing in my dictionary and I do not know if it can be used to explain the argument of a movie. And in this case I would like to have a sentence.

You could say: The movie deals with environmentalism. The movie deals with a couple's vacation to Mexico.

Look up "deal with" on this site and it may explain it better. It's the addition of "with" that changes the meaning of deal to "tratar". It's the same as "to be about".

In most cases, I would be more likely to say "to be about". "Deals with" sounds a little more formal to me. The movie is about love and war. It's a book about Mexico.

In addition to "is about" and "deals with", "treats" and "concerns" are also possible (but, like "deals with", are less common that "about"). Generally, I'd say that these last two are more applicable to movies/books that are (based on) real situations/events. This could range from serious documentaries to semi-fictionalized biographies, etc.

"treats" and "concerns" are often followed by words such as "the events" / "the problem(s) of ..." / "the situation in ..."
