How does a crowd cheer?

How would you all say "To Cheer", as in what the fans at a sports game would do?

My Spanish teacher (who is Cuban) said she would say "Lanzan Vitores", which would mean something similar to "they to throw cheers". She also suggested "aplaudir." Does anyone else have any suggestions for a good way to describe a crowd cheering?
