This wiki article mentions one possible link between food and animal

The word burrito literally means "little donkey" in Spanish, coming from burro, which means "donkey". The name burrito possibly derives from the appearance of a rolled up wheat tortilla, which vaguely resembles the ear of its namesake animal, or from bedrolls and packs that donkeys carried

Well, it is a common american food indeed but it's not from Mexico ;P - InésDelRío, Feb 15, 2010
I've always suspected that the BURRITO (mexican food wrapped in a flour tortilla) was not originally from Mexico, due to the fact that when I was in Mexico we simply called them tacos. does anybody know where I can find out more accurate info about this? - Myneg, Sep 22, 2010
