Any Kindle users out there?
I've been doing some searches for Kindle books for Spanish and I am using a couple now. I have found some cheap - $2-6. range, but I'll bet there are some that are free too. I wondered if there are any other Kindle users with whom to share this info?

There are a bunch I found that are only .99: Poemas - Edgar Allen Poe Don Quijote Amaury - Dumas El Extraño Caso del Dr. Jekyll y Mr. Hyde There are also 2-3 weekly blogs en español that are .99 and have a 14-day trial gratis.
Then for $2.86: Orullo y Prejuicio - Jane Austin Frankenstein - Shelly and for $2.99 there is SPANISH RECIPES Muy Delicioso y Oeste del Norte - Walter Aschiero for $3.65 there's Ana Karenina - Tolstoy
There are now a few dictionaries and they appear to be worthless, you can't look up a word, you have to read them page by page! And they have not developed a default dictionary so that people reading in spanish can highlight a word and get a definition like you can in English - and it's the spanish I need!
many of the books seem to be MORE expensive than Kindle books usually are - there are plenty in the $5-10. range, but many of the instruction and workbooks for spanish are more like $15-30. :(
The Spanish Phrases book has been updated and now has an interactive table of context and good reviews, so I am trying it (not cheap though) and one I have not tried that looks good is "Diccionario de jergas de habla hispana"; it is an all-spanish dictionary of spanish slang terms and colloquialisms classified by country. But it's not English-Spanish and I do not think my Spanish is good enough yet for this to really work for me.
The great thing about a Kindle though is the free samples, so you could sample all of these and more free and still get reading practice without buying a thing. Then, if you found something that you wanted you could buy then.
I'd love to find a children's book in Spanish for the Kindle actually and haven't found that yet. At my level, that might be something I could actually read and learn from.
My Kindle is an electronic book. It allows me to carry around literally 100s of books in one device that weighs less than a paperback. It is more similar to a written page than a computer screen - it is not back lit and is easy on the eyes (in fact, if it's dark, you have to use a booklight and it is easy to see in bright sunshine) I purchased it when i was going to be gone (to Oaxaca) for 5 weeks, because we are all big readers and I did not want to lug 12 books in my suitcase! Also, I could load multiple Spanish language books on the device and easily go between them.
I love real books - the feel, the smell - so I was not sure I would like it. Also, it's pricey - $300. But actually, I have gotten very hooked and with my Kindle tucked into my purse and so convenient I find I am reading a lot more and somehow reading multiple books at a time and having a whole library of reference books with you (like for Spanish...) is so easy. Also, after the initial investment, the books you download are cheaper, and in fact many "classics" are free or very cheap. You can also download free samples of most books and read the first chapter or so before you decide to purchase the book. For practice reading in Spanish, you could just get the samples of books you know for free. Or, there are also blogs you can sign up for and get weekly downloads, and there is one in Spanish.
But I am still just beginning to explore the Kindle's potential in helping me with my Spanish. From the lack of response though, looks like I may be the only "Kindler" out here for now. :(
HI Kitty, I have no idea what Kindle is...but this might be interesting for learners.
I have only dreamed of buying a Kindle, but I haven't made the leap yet.
I'm very interested in the Kindle, but I don't have one (yet). What Spanish books have you found?
Hey KittyB,
I got a Kindle last May for my anniversary! I love it! Yes, do please share your list of reasonably priced books!
Also, I want to know if you can install a bi-lingual dictionary as the default dictionary and look up words as you read. I asked on the kindle forum last spring and they told me, not yet, but it's coming.... ![]()
