Guidelines for search terms

Are there any guidelines for search terms? I tried searching for "ave" but the search returned no results even though I now know that there are questions/answers with this word. I've also tried some other short words with the same result. Is there are 4 letter limit to prevent returning too many results? Can we search with logical functions such as "AND", "OR" and "NOT"?

You're right: there's a problem. I searched for "ave" and got no results; however, I know that there were topics relating to the difference between "pájaro and ave." In my search for "pájaro " I got the threads with "ave" in the title. Why didn't they come up when I searched for "ave" if it's right in the title?
