When I clicked on my reputation points recently, I noticed that I had only received about four points total for the past few days. I have probably voted at least ten or more times daily. It just continues to say I have zero points every time I vote.

Has this happened to anyone else? Heidite says that Q is sure to know.

  • I have not noticed a problem with mine. One thing is that there is a 200 point limit in a 24 hour period. So once your counter the "the last 24 hours" gets to 200, you will continue to do things that would give you points, but won't get points for it. - Goyo Sep 20, 2009 flag
  • I got 9 points once for being voted up in an answer because my 24 hour count was already at 191. - Goyo Sep 20, 2009 flag
  • I just got a point for voting you up. Did you get points for it? - Goyo Sep 20, 2009 flag
  • No, it is not because I reach the 200 pt limit. I'm not that popular (jeje). - Nicole-B Sep 20, 2009 flag
  • Thanks Greg. I did get it. I receive points when people vote for me. I just don't get them when I vote for others. - Nicole-B Sep 20, 2009 flag

I'm having problems. I can't seem to grab ahold of that elusive K.

  • Yea...like ask how to tie a shoe in spanish...we'll all be there fighting and carrying on and it'll be the most popular question of the day!!! - ChamacoMalo Sep 20, 2009 flag
  • Well I come up with some really profound ones, but by the time I get back to my room from the inodoro I have already forgotten them. :) - Seitheach Sep 20, 2009 flag
  • That is so true. Just like the question about "250" yesterday! - Nicole-B Sep 20, 2009 flag

Yes, I see the same problem. If I look on my reputation tab, I see one vote that gave me one point and about 25 votes that gave me zero. Before that I was getting one point each time I voted someone up. This seems to happen to me intermittently. It will give points for a while and then it won't give points for a while.

I have never gotten 200 points in one day. I thought you could only receive 10 points (one at a time) per day for voting other people up. But that doesn't seem to hold true either. I have never mentioned it, because I'm here to share and learn, and I don't care about the points all that much. But I do agree that they don't seem to be working consistently.

I just had a thought. Could it be because I have completed lessons and earned points for them? I do see that over the last 2 days when I completed a lesson each day, that I did not earn any rep points for voting others up. Do the lesson points count in your 200 points per day? Maybe this is the reason.

  • No, lessons are "Learning Points". That is the 3rd category next to your picture. (You currently have 19K). Voting & being voted up are "Rep Points". You have 675 right now. - Goyo Sep 20, 2009 flag

Oh! Nicole I just remembered that the same thing happens to me if I vote up too many people too quickly.

For instance, if I log on and find something good and vote it up, I get a point. But if I vote again too soon after that, I get 0. I'm not sure why that is, or what the rule is about that. But that did happen to me.

I'm sorry I forgot about that! raspberry

  • I don't think that is the case for me. I usually vote sporadically, when I like something. Very rarely is it one vote after another. It occurs even if it has been hours between votes. But thanks. - Nicole-B Sep 20, 2009 flag
  • Until Quentin figures it out (jeje), I guess it is just another one of the mysteries of life. I'm still voting for you guys though! - Nicole-B Sep 20, 2009 flag
  • The only comment I have on it is that your point are rounded to the nearest 100 pts. (0.1K) So if your score was 1.0 k even then you would have to get 51 points before you would be moved to 1.1.K. - qfreed Sep 20, 2009 flag
  • You can need up to 100 points to see a point change by your avatar. - qfreed Sep 20, 2009 flag
  • Yes, Quentin, but one can always go to their profile and see the exact count. for instance, my profile says I have 2.1K, but as of this writing the reputation section of my profile says my total is 2,138. - Goyo Sep 20, 2009 flag

I´ve found some of my points sneaking out late at night or watching TV when they should be sleeping. A few of them won´t clean their rooms, and some back talk me. One or two ran away to other forums. So, yes, overall, I´m having problems with my rep points, too. I wonder how some people can get their rep points to behave so well.

I have noticed this in other user's profiles - it actually says "received 0 points" for voting for something.

  • I vote a lot for people's answers and questions, so I know that you can only receive 10 points a day for voting up answers. - --Mariana-- Sep 20, 2009 flag

Yeah, I just got 0 points for the last two times I have been voted up...¿?¿? Is there a limit of how much you can get voted up in one day?

  • 200 points a day. It seems you can only get points for voting twice a day also. Not sure on that though. - Seitheach Sep 26, 2009 flag
  • yeah, I passed that like 4 votes ago I guess.... jaja. - NikkiRivera Sep 26, 2009 flag

Yes, I did say that, I really have no idea. However, if I vote for you it works fine, I don't know.

I do as well...my points reset to zero yesterday, well before my 24 hour period. Actually, my wife noticed it. I don't know why. Other times I get voted up on something and receive zero points for it.

I get 0 most of the time voting others. Well... I do anyhow smile

Call me perezoso, but I only checked a couple of threads... when does this "chimerical" 24-hr period begin for counting points? I realize this has been discussed ad nauseam but perhpas someone can just tell me or point (no pun intended!) me in the right direction to ascertain the answer. If you hit the limit of 200 and the day hasn't expired yet, do you get retroactive credit? jeje Say, when the 24-hr clock resets? Not worried about points (really!) but just would like to know how the system works...and time to do something else besides Spanishdict.com!! Should be called "Spanish-addict" dot com....

¡Gracias de antemano! smile

Since I am always voting posts up, I never see anything except zeros in the detailed area of my points area.

I have noticed that sometimes I need to do a browser reset for it to show my latest points. The only reason I know this is because I don't know of any other way to check if I have messages, except going to my reputation page. And I can have a message waiting for me that I don't see, if I don't refresh the browser.

And, since I often work through the night, I have noticed that your 24 hour period before you get zeroed out again varies from day to day. I just thought this was due to the fact that the server needs to be backed up and (sometimes) reset every day. So the 24 hour period would naturally coincide with when these maintenance operations take place.

  • Thanks for the info, TT... very helpful indeed! :) - cristalino Aug 5, 2011 flag
