How do you type accents over letters

Well, I use Linux and there is a utility provided to easily switch between keyboard layouts. When I do, it's a matter of hitting the accent or the tilde just before the letter I want to accent. So above, I typed e-x-t-r-a-~-n-o.

I couldn't tell you how to do it in Windows, sorry. Maybe someone else can chime in.

"echar de menos" quiere decir to miss en ingles pero eso es el infinitivo del verbo. te echo de menos quiere decir i miss you. echar de menos es una frase idiomatica. la palabra echar es muy util. se puede usarla en otros sitios, por ejemplo
echar suertes - to draw lots
echar a perder - to spoil or to deteriorate
echar (una) mano - to lend a hand
echar chispas - to be angry
Que echan? - whats on? (cinema, radio, etc)

Thank you! I too can now do apostrophes, but using Vista I still can't find a way to put the ~ over n. Any tips gratefully recieved.
