Improving foreign language classes...

I sometimes wonder why schools don't reevaluate the way they teach foreign languages. Most schools seem content to pass out text books and have students memorize vocabulary words and conjugation charts. We live in a whole new world that is becoming smaller due to technology. We need to be able to communicate with people around the world more than ever-not just dabble in foreign languages. I was wondering if anyone else sees the need to change how we teach language. Possibly you know of a school that is doing something different. Either way, I would be interesting in your thoughts.

That is great! I think that listening and speaking to others in their native tongue is one of the most important things to do. I wish that was available when I was in school. - Nicole-B, Sep 4, 2009
