There is no tense called subjunctive. Subjunctive is a mood, like indicative, and there are many tenses for each mood.

indicative

  • present indicative
  • present perfect indicative
  • imperfect indicative
  • preterite indicative
  • pluperfect indicative
  • future indicative
  • future perfect indicative
  • conditional indicative
  • conditional perfect indicative

subjunctive

  • present subjunctive
  • present perfect subjunctive
  • imperfect subjunctive
  • pluperfect subjunctive
  • future subjunctive
  • future perfect subjunctive

subjunctive in Reference section

I see your point. The links for the tenses in subjunctive mood take you to indicative tenses not subjunctive. I'll PM the author.

Hi Kathleen, If you'd like some information while they're fixing that link...

Here is a link to someone else's explanation of the w.i.e.r.d.o. rule: w.i.e.r.d.o.

and here is another mnemonic you may find helpful: widen vs. cart

and finally, here is some reference material: subjunctive

Hope that's of use! smile

  • Well, shoot! While I was off tracking down those links I remembered, Paralee posted a better answer. :) Oh well. - Valerie 12 de Ago, 2009 marcar

... and remember that while you continue using those mnemonics and whimsical rules, you'll always make mistakes (maybe not too many in the end) and you'll always find sentences that seem to defy those "rules". Trying to understand why subjunctive is used pays off much quicker. Learn the force, Luke!
