An adjective is a word that describes a noun (e.g. the big dog).
1. (unable to sleep)
Lourdes está insomne otra vez. Debe ser por todo el café que se tomó en la tarde.Lourdes is sleepless again. It must be all the coffee she had in the afternoon.
El paciente insomne pidió que le dieran pastillas para dormir.The insomniac patient asked for some sleeping pills.
This means that the noun can be masculine or feminine, depending on the gender of person it refers to (e.g. el doctor, la doctora).
2. (person who is unable to sleep)
Un insomne como José debería evitar la cafeína.An insomniac like Jose should avoid caffeine.
