An adjective is a word that describes a noun (e.g. the big dog).
1. (learned; often used with "en")
a. expert
Mis hermanos, que son muy entendidos en sonido, tienen un estudio de grabación.My brothers, who are sound experts, have a recording studio.
b. well up on
No te puedo ayudar. No soy entendido en computación.I can't help you. I'm not well up on computers.
This means that the noun can be masculine or feminine, depending on the gender of person it refers to (e.g. el doctor, la doctora).
2. (connoisseur; often used with "en")
a. expert
Este es uno de los mejores discos de la década, según los entendidos.This is one of the best albums of the decade, according to the experts.
An adverb is a word that describes a verb, an adjective, or other adverbs (e.g. to run quickly, very tired).
3. (used to express agreement)
a. all right
Vuelve a casa antes de las diez. - Entendido.Be home before ten. - All right.
b. alright
No le abras la puerta a otro que no sea yo. - Entendido.Don't open the door to anybody but me. - Alright.
c. okay
Recuerda que el perro no debe comer pollo. - Entendido.Remember that the dog can't eat chicken. - Okay.
d. understood
No quiero que me mientras más. ¿Entendido? - Sí, papá.I don't want you to lie to me again. Is that understood? - Yes, dad.
e. got it
A word or phrase that is commonly used in conversational speech (e.g. skinny, grandma).
Protege esta posición hasta que te releven. - ¡Entendido!Protect this position until relieved. - Got it!
f. copy (on the radio)
Artillería, ¡detengan el fuego! - Entendido.Artillery, cease fire! - Copy.
