go without saying(
An intransitive verb phrase is a phrase that combines a verb with a preposition or other particle and does not require a direct object (e.g. Everybody please stand up.).
intransitive verb phrase
1. (when followed by a longer phrase; often used with "it")
a. estar de más decir
It goes without saying that politics and religion are off limits at Christmas dinner.Está de más decir que la política y la religión no se tocan en la cena de Navidad.
b. no hacer falta decir
I thought it would go without saying that you would refill the tank after borrowing my car.Pensé que no habría hecho falta decir que rellenaras el tanque después de usar mi carro.
c. ni que decir tener
It goes without saying that you should at least thank someone after they pay for your dinner.Ni que decir tiene que al menos debes agradecerle a alguien después de que te compre la cena.
d. holgar decir que
We all assumed it went without saying that you would take a shower and shave before the show. This an important event!Creíamos que holgaba decir que te ducharas y que te afeitaras antes del concierto. ¡Este un evento importante!
2. (at the end of a phrase; often used with "it")
a. estar de más decirlo
They won't let me into the bar without shoes? - Geez, I thought it went without saying.¿No me dejan entrar al bar descalzo? - Caray, pensé que estaba de más decirlo.
b. no hacer falta mencionarlo
When someone invites you to their house, you offer to bring something. That goes without saying.Cuando alguien te invita a su casa, ofreces llevar algo. No hace falta mencionarlo.
