A prefix is an affix that is added to the beginning of a word to create a new word with a different meaning (e.g. auto, pre).
1. (on, in, at; used to form adverbs)
a. en (preposition)
We had been ashore for 12 hours when we had to return to the ship.Habíamos estado en tierra por 12 horas cuando tuvimos que volver al barco.
2. (in a state or condition; used to form adjectives)
a. en (preposition)
The volcano dust in the atmosphere made the sky appear to be afire.El polvo del volcán en la atmósfera hizo que el cielo pareciera estar en llamas.
3. (not or without; used to form adjectives)
a. a-
James is looking at the sky with an achromatic telescope.James está mirando el cielo con un telescopio acromático.
4. (in a manner; used to form adverbs)
a. en (preposition)
Alan read his favorite poem aloud.Alan leyó su poema favorito en voz alta.
5. (in the act or process of)
This refers to an idiomatic word or phrase for which there is no word-for-word translation.
