Weekend Subjunctive Practice 4: Querer que
¡Bienvenido a nuestro hilo! Each weekend, Cordobesa and I will present a different topic on everybody’s favorite subject… the subjunctive!
We will give an explanation of the topic, and a couple of examples.
Write sentences at least 5 words long. Write your Spanish sentence, and include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by Cordobesa in the comments section. Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.)
Post pictures if you’d like, and don’t forget to vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the topic as well as the number of votes.

Weekend Subjunctive Practice 4: Querer que
Explanation:
Just like after “para que”, from Weekend Subjunctive Practice 2, when you have a change of subject, the subjunctive follows "querer que" which literally translates to “to want that". In the first example below, “I” am the one that wants “you all” to listen to me and to do what I say. In the second example, “the parents” are the ones that want “their children” to stop running through the house.
Examples:
Quiero que me escuchéis y que hagáis lo que os diga.
Literal translation: I want that you all listen to me and that you all do that which I tell you.
Actual translation: I want you to listen to me and do what I say.
Los padres quieren que sus hijos dejen de correr por la casa. (dejar de + infinitive = to stop doing something)
The parents want their children to stop running through the house.
¡Prestad atención!
If there is not a change of subject, the conjugated form of “querer” is followed by the infinitive. In the following example, “I" am the one doing the “wanting” and the one doing the “spending”.
Example:
No me encuentro muy bien. Quiero pasar todo el día en la cama.
I don’t feel very well. I want to spend all day in bed.

Quiero que la gente se tome más en serio ayudar a los otros, quiero que el gobierno trabaje duro para mitigar la pobreza, y quiero que todos sean más amables. Quiero muchas otras cosas además, pero esto sería un comienzo.
I want people to be more serious about helping others, I want the government to work hard to alleviate poverty, and I want everyone to be more kind. I want a lot of other things as well, but this would be a start.
Quiero que vayas a la tienda para comprar un jamón.
I want you to go to the store to buy a ham.
I want you to go to the movie with me.
Quiero que vengas a la película al cine conmigo.
Quiero que pueda venir a visitarnos en la Navidad.
I want him to come to visit us on Christmas.
Quiero que los muchachos vayan al cine con nosotros esta noche. 
I want the boys to go to the movies with us tonight.
No quiero nadar contigo.
I don't want to swim with you.
I wanted you to carry the groceries into the house.
