A contraction is a shortened form of a word or group of words made by omitting a sound or letter (e.g. don't).
1. (there is; used to indicate existence)
a. hay
There's a fox in the backyard.Hay un zorro en el jardín trasero.
There's no evidence that these policies are working.No hay evidencia de que estas políticas estén funcionando.
2. (there is; used to indicate location)
a. está
There's the restaurant we're looking for.Allí está el restaurante que buscamos.
3. (there has; used to indicate the past)
This refers to an idiomatic word or phrase for which there is no word-for-word translation.

There's been an accident on the highway.Hubo un accidente en la autopista.
There's never been a better time to invest in energy.Nunca ha habido un momento mejor para invertir en la energía.
