transitive verb phrase
A transitive verb phrase is a phrase that combines a verb with a preposition or other particle and requires a direct object (e.g. Take out the trash.).
a. to avoid
Juan es un tipo muy tímido. Sale de su casa muy poco y rehuye a los extraños.Juan is a really shy guy. He doesn't go out of his house much and avoids strangers.
b. to shy away from
Parra no rehuye a ningún otro boxeador.Parra doesn't shy away from any other fighter.
c. to run away from
No puedes rehuir a tus críticos, Fátima. Tienes que salir y enfrentarlos.You can't run away from your critics, Fatima. You have to go out and face them.
d. to shrink from
En defensa de David, no rehuyó a su responsabilidad y le dió a Rafaela lo que le correspondía tras el divorcio.In David's defense, he didn't shrink from his responsibility and gave Rafaela what she was entitled to after the divorce.
