An adjective is a word that describes a noun (e.g. the big dog).
1. (in their eighties)
Mariluz se veía algo agobiada con tres niños pequeños y padres octogenarios.Mariluz was a little stressed with three young children and octogenarian parents.
Un abuelo octogenario vive solo en esa inmensa casa.An eighty-year-old grandfather lives alone in that huge house.
This means that the noun can be masculine or feminine, depending on the gender of person it refers to (e.g. el doctor, la doctora).
2. (eighty-year-old person)
Ese cazafortunas se casó con una octogenaria por sus millones.That gold digger married an octogenarian because of her millions.
La prima del seguro se reduce en un 50% para los octogenarios y es gratis a partir de los noventa años.The insurance premium reduces to 50% for eighty-year-olds and is free after the age of ninety.
