1. (insincere)
a. affected
Lisandro hablaba con un tono melindroso, intentando quedar como un sofisticado.Lisandro spoke with an affected tone, trying to sound sophisticated.
2. (choosy)
a. fussy
No seas melindrosa y elige un sabor de helado de una vez por todas.Don't be fussy; just pick an ice cream flavor already.
b. finicky
¡Mi hermano es muy melindroso con la comida!My brother is so finicky with his food!
3. (prim)
a. prudish
José es muy melindroso y se ofende con facilidad.Jose is very prudish and gets easily offended.
This means that the noun can be masculine or feminine, depending on the gender of person it refers to (e.g. el doctor, la doctora).
4. (insincere person)
a. affected person
En la exhibición había muchos melindrosos que se querían parecer entendedores del arte.In the exhibition there were many affected people trying to look artsy.
5. (choosy eater)
a. fussy eater
La única carne que come mi hermano es pollo. ¡Es un melindroso de verdad!The only meat my brother eats is chicken. He's such a fussy eater!
b. finicky eater
Alejandra siempre tarda mucho en pedir una hamburguesa porque es una melindrosa.Alejandra always takes a long time to order a hamburger because she's a finicky eater.
6. (prim person)
a. prude
Mi hermano es un melindroso. No le va a gustar ese chiste verde.My brother is a prude. He won't like that dirty joke.
