A feminine noun is almost always used with feminine articles and adjectives (e.g. la mujer bonita, la luna llena).

The beam supporting the ceiling was structural as well as decorative. b. rafter (of wood) Las termitas destrozaron las vigas del ático, así que los obreros tuvieron que reemplazarlas. Termites destroyed the rafters in the attic, so the laborers had to replace it. c. girder (of metal) Tuvimos que pintar la viga oxidada porque daba un aspecto sucio a la casa.
