A feminine noun is almost always used with feminine articles and adjectives (e.g. la mujer bonita, la luna llena).

a. thrashing La goleada que el equipo local le dio a los campeones de la liga alegró al público. The crowd was delighted with the thrashing the local team gave the league champions.
2. (big difference)
a. wide margin La goleada por la que ganó mi equipo sorprendió a todo el mundo. Everyone was surprised that my team won by such a wide margin.
b. landslide El candidato republicano ganó el voto por goleada. The Republican candidate won the vote by a landslide.
