An intransitive verb phrase is a phrase that combines a verb with a preposition or other particle and does not require a direct object (e.g. Everybody please stand up.).

a. to be on sick leave
El señor Pérez se rompió el brazo y está de baja, pero si es urgente puede llamarle a su celular.Mr. Perez broke his arm and is on sick leave, but if it's urgent, you can reach him on his cellphone.
b. to be off sick
La secretaria está de baja con gripe, así que me ocupo yo del correo.The secretary is off sick with the flu, so I'm in charge of the mail.
