be silent
An intransitive verb phrase is a phrase that combines a verb with a preposition or other particle and does not require a direct object (e.g. Everybody please stand up.).

1. (to keep quiet)
a. guardar silencio

b. estar callado

2. (to be noiseless)
a. ser silencioso
The car is silent thanks to its electric engine.El coche es silencioso gracias al motor eléctrico.
b. estar silencioso
Now that there were no children, the house was silent.Ahora que no había niños, la casa estaba silenciosa.
A phrase is a group of words commonly used together (e.g once upon a time).
3. (imperative)
a. guarde silencio
Please, be silent, madam. I'm trying to listen to your chest.Por favor, señora, guarde silencio; estoy tratando de auscultarla.
b. guarden silencio
Ladies and gentlemen, please be silent.Damas y caballeros, guarden silencio, por favor.
