Verbs in the Present Progressive

In this skill, you learn the following verbs in the present progressive (present continuous)!

The structure for the present progressive in Spanish is:

estar + present participle

InfinitiveEnglishPresent Participle
buscarto look forbuscando
comprarto buycomprando
considerarto considerconsiderando
darto givedando
elegirto chooseeligiendo
envolverto wrapenvolviendo
pensarto thinkpensando
ponerto put onponiendo
prepararto preparepreparando
regalarto give (a gift)regalando
serto besiendo

When using direct, indirect, or reflexive pronouns in the present progressive tense, the pronouns can either be attached to the end of the present participle or go before the verb estar. The pronouns never go in between estar and the present participle.

When direct and indirect object pronouns are used together in a sentence, the indirect object pronoun comes before the direct object pronoun.

For example:

I'm giving it to her for her retirement.

Estoy regalándosela por su jubilación.

Se la estoy regalando por su jubilación.

Estoy se la regalando por su jubilación.
