ñandú

Pariente del avestruz, el Ñandú (también conocido como Lesser Rhea, Rhea de Darwin o Choique) es una especie regional que se encuentra en peligro de extinción.	A relative of the ostrich, the Darwin's rhea (also known as the Lesser rhea, ñandu or choique), is a regionally endangered species.
Tanto el ñandú como el suri cordilleranos actualmente han desaparecido de la Reserva.	Both the ñandús and the Andes suri have currently disappeared from the reservation.
Su vida silvestre característica incluye especies como el guanaco, el puma, el ñandú, el zorro gris, y muchos otros pequeños mamíferos y aves.	Its characteristic wildlife includes guanaco, puma, rhea, grey fox, and various small mammals and birds.
La abundancia de alimento y la ausencia de grandes carniceros favorecieron su rápido desarrollo, compitiendo con especies autóctonas como el venado y el ñandú.	The food abundance and the absence of big butchers favored their express development, competing with autochthonous species as the deer and the nandu.
Tanto el ñandú como el suri cordilleranos actualmente han desaparecido de la reserva que es visitada anualmente por 11000 personas que hacen trekking y ciclismo. Los cazadores nómades terrestres basaban su dieta en animales de estepa como el guanaco y el ñandú; mientras que otros grupos usaban piraguas para navegar, pescaban y cazaban animales de zonas boscosas como el huemul y mamíferos pequeños.	The nomadic hunters ate animals of the steppe as the guanaco and the rhea; whereas other groups used canoes for navigating, fished and hunted animals of the wooded zones as the huemul and small mammals.
El ñandú grande y el ñandú petiso son grandes aves no voladoras endémicas de los pastizales de la Patagonia. Atrajeron la atención de Charles Darwin cuando éste recorrió la costa atlántica de la Argentina mientras era naturalista de la nave HMS Beagle.	The greater rhea and lesser rhea are ostrich-like birds endemic to South America; they attracted Charles Darwin's attention when he visited the Atlantic coast of Argentina while serving as naturalist of the HMS Beagle.

El elenco avifaunístico se completa con el Ñandú, el Halconcito Gris y el majestuoso Cóndor Andino.	The cast avifaunístico is completed with the Nandu, the Gray Halconcito and the majestic Andean Condor.
Por todas estas razones creemos a priori que el Valle Chacabuco representa un lugar donde el Ñandú podría vivir sin problemas.	For these reasons, we believe a priori that the Ñandú can thrive in the Chacabuco Valley without problems.
