bronco

harsh

Welcome to La Palabra Del Día

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game..

Examples:

1: "¡No pisen el césped!" dijo una voz bronca.

"Don't walk on the grass!" said a harsh voice.

2: La vieja tuba emitió un sonido estridente y bronco.

The old tuba let out a shrill, harsh sound.

Hi Billy. I understood what you were saying. lol The fact is, the Bible says, "no one knows the day or the hour." So, as you know, there are some crackposts out there. :) - rac1, Sep 23, 2017
Typo: crackpots, not crackposts. lol - rac1, Sep 23, 2017
As the bible is completely clear and contains no contradictions, I agree with you ;) - billygoat, Sep 23, 2017

Cuando tu voz se convierte en bronca , tienes que visitar tu doctor, porque esto puede significar un amigdalitis sin importancia, pero una enfermedad grave también.

When your voice becomes hoarse, you have to visit your doctor, because this can mean minor tonsillitis, but a serious illness also.

At times, instructors sound harsh because they are looking for self-disciplined, future leaders. A veces, los instructores suenan broncos porque están buscando por autodisciplinados y futuros líderes.

Una palabra que se dice con amor es mejor que cien palabras broncas.

One word said with love is better than a hundred harsh words.

Yes, I did exactly what Alec said not to do and mixed up "ronco" with "bronco", but the opportunity to use a pun that works in both languages was too much to resist :) - jellonz, Sep 23, 2017

¡Por fin una palabra de la que he oído! smile Menos mal que estoy escribiendo porque mi voz está un poco tronca esta mañana..... era una noche larga.

At last a word I have heard of! It's just as well that I'm writing too because my voice is a little hoarse this morning...... it was a long night.
