How would I say this in Spanish?
He was clocked, going to the airport in the dead of night?
Update I was hoping that similar Spanish quolloquial expressions existed.

so that would be "pillado"..never heard that in my life. Mind you, I only watch American series, jeje, I guess they don't say clock somebody.
I still don't know...now I looked on Urban...but makes no sense.

Boy racer - a driver usually young who likes driving fast ( above the speed limit) traditionally they modify their cars so they are noisier and faster. In my area there are a group known as the Jetty boys as they meet at a car park by the jetty then drive up and down the seafront.67 were fined on one evening.
Grassed up - is to tell the Police or someone in authority of what someone is up to. Believed to be from rhyming slang grasshopper/copper.
Dead unlucky -. an intensifier, really or very unlucky (not the same meaning as Ian's sentence)

The use of 'clock' is all about context. To me 'clocked' and 'car' shouts speed check. In the UK this is done by the Police or the use of speed cameras. Dead of night could mean it was dark Ian doesn't say - unlikely Police would do speed checks in the middle of the night but speed cameras still operate. Certainly speed cameras on major routes to airports would operate and how annoying to be on an empty road yet clocked by a speed camera.
For it to mean seen I would expect more context eg David wouldn't say when or where he was going on holiday but as we were driving back from dinner with Nick and Laura we clocked his BMW driving towards the airport. To mean seen, it is about actually seeing something and registering/remembering that you saw it.
Clock can also mean to hit someone, but that makes no sense here.
In the end on the one sentence I still prefer 'speeding' but being seen also works.
My mate clocked me laying in bed smoking a cigar with two naked girls.
