The three friends: "All for one and one for all!"

I could not find any help for this one!

Editor's note: This well-known quote is from a famous film based on a novel written by Alexandre Dumas called: 'The Three Musketeers!'

Original sentence (Spanish version only):

Los tres amigos: "¡Todo por uno y uno por todos!"

Muchas gracias , Heidita :) Do we have to use para because everyone is the 'recipient ', Please? I wrongly used por = for being in support of /being willing to do somethng on behalf of the others in the group! - FELIZ77, Aug 2, 2017
Feliz, probably just an unintentional omission, but you still need to add an "s" to Todo. :) - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Gracias, Ken :) - FELIZ77, Aug 2, 2017
https://forum.wordreference.com/threads/uno-para-todos-o-uno-por-todos.1287362/ - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Feliz: I think it is just a much more common idiomatic phrase with para. As you suggested, por could probably work logically, but the phrase with para is also logical and more common. - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Ken, come to think of it, it actually sounds much better with para :) - FELIZ77, Aug 2, 2017
Good job Feliz :) - 00376109, Aug 2, 2017

The dog on the left says to the one on the right: Are you sure that Rex is our brother? He looks nothing like us.

The answer: Erm, I've got even worse news for you.... she's not our sister either!

With corrections:

thank you Heidita. I'm trying to say that the dog on the left was questioning whether the dog in the middle was his brother. The smart dog on the right was informing him (veeeery subtly lol), that actually the dog in the middle is a girl. :) - billygoat, Aug 2, 2017

Dog on the left: Really, Mama, we're too old to look cute.
Dog on the right: Besides, Jock and I don't want to catch fleas from Joe.
Dog in the middle: Let go of me, you two, I've got a bone to pick with you!

demasiado (no S) when demasiado modifies an adjective, it is an adverb, and adverbs are invariable (do not change for gender or number) - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017

Ann: nice one. I think gusta is fine. You could also use encantar, amar or querer. Exact usage for the meaning of "love" tends to vary by region. - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Thanks, Ken. One of your choices would probably be better. :-) - AnnRon, Aug 2, 2017

We have heard that tonight is going to be a three dog night, we are here to offer our services.

For those who do not know, a three dog night is one so cold that you have to snuggle up to three dogs to keep warm.

Nice one Bosque. Three Dog Night is also a musical reference like mine. :) - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Well, I didn't do lyrics this time (as I am wont to do), but yes, I learned the saying from the group. :) - bosquederoble, Aug 2, 2017
But as you point that out, doing some three dog night lyrics might not have been a bad idea. :) - bosquederoble, Aug 2, 2017

The border collies are taking a photo session.

NKM: The Spanish use the term Border collies for Border collies. I checked in Spanish wikipedia. Pastor escoces is the term for one normal collie. :) - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Also, I don't know how well the literal "are taking" translates into Spanish. I would have said están sentados para.... (are seated for) (or you could use están listos) are ready for. :) - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
I see you've changed tomando for sacando. Perhaps this is OK, but I've normally seen sacar fotos used to refer to the person taking the photos, not the people who's fotos are being taken. Feel free to wait for Heidi. :) - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Another option: ..." se están tomando fotos" o "están en una sesión de fotos" :) - 00376109, Aug 2, 2017
Yes NKM, the addition of the se changes everything. Now the dogs are the passive objects being photographed, which agrees with the other concepts I suggested. - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Thank you DilKen :) - 00376109, Aug 2, 2017
Gracias tanto por las correcciones. - NKM1974, Aug 2, 2017
In the third comment above I should have written whose instead of who's....silly mistake :) - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
NKM...you combined two of Coffee's suggestions. Since you went with the second suggestion you should now remove the "se" - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
actually, even though it sounds absurd...coffee's suggestion : se están tomando/haciendo fotos is the best...remember my thread about have sth done? this is a good example - 006595c6, Aug 2, 2017

This picture is perfect....two Border Collies showing homage and appreciation to an Australian Shepherd! Aussies rule! (Of course, my name Echoline comes from the name of my kennel, Echoline Aussies).

Echo: I would use ser instead of estar. Esta folo es perfecta. Also, son los mejores. Nice job. - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Echo, I agree with Ken, it should be: son LOS mejorES (plural,as you are referring to Los pastorES I hope this helps :) - FELIZ77, Aug 2, 2017
I also agree with him (Ken) that ser is needed here instead of estar as you are referring to a characteristic (takes ser) in this situation, not a state/condition (takes estar) - FELIZ77, Aug 2, 2017
Thanks Feliz. - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Thanks to both of you! - Echoline, Aug 2, 2017
De nada, amigos :) - FELIZ77, Aug 2, 2017
Gracias Echo.
Echo: I thought of an easy fix for the sentence of yesterday. (if you put the pill after a preposition the pill cannot be the subject of the sentence) :) - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
N O W you tell me! :-) - Echoline, Aug 2, 2017
Echo: L O L ! My suggestion yesterday of using te was pretty simple also. I can't help it you don't like to tutear. :) - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
=) - 00376109, Aug 2, 2017
Actually, I love to tutear. Unfortunately, the people of Costa Rica do not... - Echoline, Aug 2, 2017

¡Somos juntos! Para siempre

Matt, I think in Spanish, at least , it would work better as a whole sentence ¡Estamos juntos para siempre! or ¡Estamos juntos y somos amigos para siempre! I hope this helps :) - FELIZ77, Aug 2, 2017
Being together in a physical sense always takes the verb 'estar' as you are talking about location, location, location :) - FELIZ77, Aug 2, 2017
Good catch Feliz. Estoy de acuerdo. - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Gracias, Ken :) - FELIZ77, Aug 2, 2017
The physicality. Got it. I was going with the forever thing. - Matthew1549, Aug 2, 2017
Somos juntos may be OK. I tend to agree with Feliz. Note the following from the SD dictionary. I promise you we'll be together forever, my darling. - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017

mejor: antes de que se inventara... - 006595c6, Aug 2, 2017
Jtaniel: I know that using a gerundio as an adjective as you did is permitted in captions...so you're good here. In normal Spanish writing it is not allowed. :) - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Jtdaniel: note that part of the reason Heidita corrected here was because antes de que always triggers the subjunctive, so even with ser passive (which is what you had) you should use fuera instead of fue. :) - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Thanks for the corrections, Heidita and Ken. The fue/fuera error was just a hurried typo. Heidita, is 'se inventara' better than 'fuera inventado'? Aren't they both natural ways of saying the same thing? - jtaniel, Aug 2, 2017
J: I'll give you my understanding of the difference and H can agree or disagree. Ser passive is more often used in writing such as newspapers and magazine. Spoken Spanish tends to favor the se passive. Captions more often use the less formal se passive. - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Jtaniel. Four dogs????? Are you including the one taking the picture??? :))) - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Yes, Ken. Before selfie sticks, they couldn't all be in the photo. - jtaniel, Aug 2, 2017
Ha! I missed the obvious. Really funny. I read the words, but the idea of four dogs didn't come to me. :) - DilKen, Aug 2, 2017
Funny =) - 00376109, Aug 2, 2017
lolo, I mssed that too, whohooooooooo, of course, three dogs!!! genial ken - 006595c6, Aug 2, 2017
ken, nobody ever uses passive in Spain, se passive is always preferred...why don't you open a thread, maybe this is more regional than I know - 006595c6, Aug 2, 2017
