picante ( pee-KAHN-the )

(noun) spices; hot sauce

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1: Me encanta la comida con un montón de picante.

I love food with lots of hot spices.

2: Un taco sin picante es como un capuchino sin canela.

A taco without hot sauce is like a cappuccino without cinnamon.

Hay un punto donde una comida es demasiado picante,

y el sabor se pierde.

There is a point where a meal is too spicy.

and the flavour is lost.

Cuando voy a los mercadillos en españa, me gusta mucho probar todos los distintos tipos de aceitunas. Pero siempre acabo comprando las picantes!

When I go to the street markets in Spain, I like to try all the different types of olives. But I always end up buying the spicy ones.

Hay una canción que se llama "La llorona" y contiene una frase que me hace sonreír...."Yo soy como el chile verde, llorona, picante pero sabroso."

There's a song called "The Weeping Woman" and it contains a sentence that makes me smile..."I'm like a green chile pepper, weeping woman, spicy but enjoyable."

En mi país, la comida con picante es más usual que antes, porque tenemos muchos inmigrantes de varios lugares que han traido sus recetas con ellos.

In my country, food with hot spices is more common than before, because we have many immigrants from various places who have brought their recipes with them.

A mi esposa y yo a mí nos encanta la comida picante, y hace unos pocos días decidí que iba a cocinar comida tailandesa hoy, pero luego mi esposa decidió que iba a invitarle a una amiga que no le gusta lo picante, y le dije que la prepararía no muy picante. Esta mañana me informó que la amigo no podía venir y que yo debería añadir las especias.

My wife and I love spicy food, and I decided a few days ago that I was going to cook Thai food today, but then my wife decided that she was going to invite a friend that doesn't like spiciness, and I told her that I would make it mild. This morning my wife informed me that the friend was not able to come and that I should add the spices.

Japanese curry is less spicy and can be eaten with a spoon. El curry japonés es menos picante y se puede comer con una cuchara.

¡No me gusta nada la comida picante!¡ Después de haber tratado de comer la comida picante en el pasado creía que casi tendría que llamar a los bomberos! ¡Prefiero probar nuevos sabores de helado!
