(adjective) salty

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

And a badge for you mi amor. - ray76, Jul 4, 2017
Yes, we don't say botana either. I wonder what the word is. ¿Tentempié, merienda, refrigerio, colación? We can hear "snack" pronounced "esnac". What's the good one? - polenta1, Jul 4, 2017

Amusing in Spain, unlucky in Latin America, and expensive in the Southern Cone - what a variety :) - jellonz, Jul 4, 2017
And in Brit. English salty can mean down to earth, while in the US angry or resentful :) - jellonz, Jul 4, 2017

It is very noticeable when you do not use much salt or sugar , I found the food in Canada far too salty and dangerously sweet . Great image mate but please ask my permission next time you use it . - ray76, Jul 4, 2017

Thanks Hedita, any reason why it's "da sed" instead of "hace sed"? Is hace used at all in spanish as in English "makes me"?? - Cameron0484, Jul 5, 2017

La palabra salario viene la palabra sal.

Nuestros salarios se pagaron con sal

Se dice que un buen trabajador vale su sal.

Prefiero oro y plata no un salado paqueto por pago.

The word salary comes from the word salt.

Our wages were paid for with salt.

A good worker is said to be worth his salt.

I prefer gold and silver not a salty pay-packet for payment.

I'm out of luck because I hit the jackpot and I can't find the tickets. Estoy salado porque le pegué al gordo (me gané la lotería ) y no puedo encontrar los boletos. "Estoy salado" It's an informal way to say "no tengo suerte" (en Colombia).

Y pensé que se llaman "saladas" porque se puede poner la ensalada sobre ellos ... estúpido.

And I thought they were called "saladas" because you can put salad on top of them ... der.

El Perro Viejo Salado tuvo una lagrima en el ojo cuando tomó su nieteciita al mar por primera vez.

The old Salty Dog had a tear in his eye when he first took his little granddaughter out on the sea.

(the term Salty Dog means an old sailor or fisherman in US English)

Me gusta mucho el helado de sabor caramelo salado, pero no quiero engañarme que es saludable.

I really like the ice-cream flavour salted caramel, but I don't want to trick myself that it is healthy.

Si tú estás mascando muchos cacahuetes salados y sobre todo si lo haces sentado delante de la televisión , es absolutamente seguro que vas a poner peso.

If you are chewing many salty peanuts and especially if you sit in front of the television, it is quite certain that you will put on weight.

Necesitamos alimentos salados especialmente en los países trópicales porque perdemos mucha sal cuando sudamos.

We need salty foods especially in tropical countries because we lose a lot of salt when we sweat.

Cuando visitamos la playa, a mi mujer le gusta bañarse en el mar, pero ¡yo no! Me da pereza quitarme el agua salada después. Yo prefiero nadar en la piscina cuando regresemos al piso.

When we visit the beach my wife likes to go for a swim in the sea, but I don't! I'm too lazy to wash off the salt water afterwards. I prefer to swim in the pool when we get back to the apartment.

With corrections:
