Thanks, gang. I learned some English, and I’m a native speaker. I always thought “wheel well” was that hollow spot (hueco) where the four tires of an automobile are located. I looked it up and found that I have been mistaken all these years. It turns out that it is the hollow space where the spare tire is stored. That actually makes more sense. 1948 Lincolns don’t have wheel wells. The spare is mounted externally at the rear. I was able to find the Spanish definition of a real wheel well at “Lingue”, but now I’m wondering if the space that I thought was a wheel well has a specific name, even in English.

According to the Wiki article I just read on Fender, wheel wells are just that, the open spaces under the fenders where the tire fits. I think the spare tire goes in the spare tire well or spare tire wheel well. - DilKen, Jul 1, 2017
