What is the difference between conocer and saber?

saber = to know conocer = to meet
*you can also use conocer when you have known a person for a long time.

As a basic guide, the Spanish have two verbs meaning to know.
Saber = to know a fact / to know how to do something:
ex 1. Sé que juan trabaja como ingeniero = I know that John works (is working) as an engineer
ex:2.Todos los niños en la clase saben nadar All the children in the class know how to swim.
Conocer = means to know or acquainted with a person/place .or to meet a person for the first time when used in the preterite or simple past ![]()

Conozco a María = I know Maria (Mary)
Conocemos al presidente de los Estados Unidos en una fiesta la semana pasada
= We met the President of the United States at a party last week.
