Need help quick please!

Question

There are two blanks in each of these three questions. I need to know what the best word is to fill in the blank and there are only four words. The words are "les", "le", "gusta", and "gustan". The questions are: A Carlos y a Sofía no____ ____ el chorizo. A Carlos y a Sofía ____ ____la tortilla española. A Carlos ____ ____ las empanadas de pollo.

Welcome to the forum. Are you using self study, or do you have a teacher? I am happy to give you some guidance, then if you want to edit your question and fill in the blanks we will tell you if you are right.

Due to shortage of time and sometimes laziness, I have found answers on the internet, but I have only cheated myself, because doing exercises is good revision and when you need to speak Spanish to someone, it looks better if you can do it without looking things up.

I see you are a beginner. Your exercise combines one of the group of verbs in the third person and indirect and direct objects. Gustar is translated as to like, but it makes more sense if you think of it as 'it is pleasing to me/you/us/you plural, them or where a number of items, they are pleasing to me/you etc. Therefore it is gusta if the direct object is a single thing and gustan if it is a plural thing.

Indirect objects are - me, te, le, nos, os, les. The a Juan, a Maria etc is partly emphasis and to tell you who it is as le is used for male and female.

So, it is now a matching exercise

You will find it also works for encantar, doler, aburrir and many more.

My advice:

1 Figure out whether the indirect object pronoun or the verb goes first.

2 Decide what is the subject of the sentence (which affects the conjugation of the verb) and what is the indirect object (which determines the indirect object pronoun).

3 Using this information determine what goes in each box.

If you make a reasonable attempt and explain your thoughts, we can help you learn how it should be done. Please keep in mind it would be far simpler to simply give you the correct answer than to write everything I just wrote.
