Not close as in distance. Close as in close with.
E.g. Me and my sister are close.

Entre ambos hermanos existe una relación muy estrecha.
The two brothers have a very close relationship.
Estamos muy unidos/unidas (si los dos son chicas) is my version.

I think the translator is right: Estamos muy unidas or, you can say Mi hermana y yo tenemos una relación íntima.
