Yo / asistir / la clase de arte?

I have completed all sentences correctly, except this. I have used Yo asisto "en" la clase de arte, but that was apparently wrong. The whole sentence is right. I am just missing a word between assisto and la clase.

The proper preposition to follow asistir when used to mean attend something is "a"- that is just something that has to be memorized.

3 to attend -asistir a un acto -to attend an event

Thank you so much, I'm definetly going to have to review the conjucations of asistir. - ConSpanish1411, Jul 8, 2015
De nada. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 8, 2015
I know that one because I often emailed my teacher to explain why I couldn't attend class! - Mardle, Jul 11, 2015

A common mistake is to think that "asistir" means "assist." In this case, you might have thought that the sentence was about assisting in the class.

But "asistir" means "attend" and would be followed by "en" only in very odd situations. As bosquederoble says, the preposition typically used is "a."

For Spanish speakers´ears there are too many words there. Asisto a clase de arte would be what a Spanish speaker would say but I suppose that your main concern was the preposition more than the Spanish accuracy of the sentence.

Asistir takes the preposition "A"

It's asistir a la clase.
