Comparisons in Spanish

I want to say that something is like another thing. I am learning Spanish and I like making comparisons so I can remember more easily.

I know "la mismo que" means "the same" and I think "como" can be used as the word "like," but I would be grateful for some help.

I actually have a great lesson on this, but it is a lot of work and will require the questioner to at least fill in his/her profile, and make some commitment to get back to me. - Daniela2041, May 27, 2015

Maybe like this? My dog is like yours. Mi perro es como el tuyo.

Guanajuato es como Florencia, Italia. (Both are pretty similar in architecture). Guanajuato is like Florence, Italy.

But

Caminar es lo mismo que andar. Mirar es lo mismo que ver.(both are synonyms)

Hope that helps.

Two that come to mind:

Es semejante a ella en el carácter she is like her in character;

http://www.spanishdict.com/translate/parecido

ser parecido a algo to be similar to sth; be like sth;

mi reloj es muy parecido al tuyo my watch is very similar to yours; my watch is very like yours;

I probably choose semejante more for any aspect, and parecido more when it is similar in appearnce- but I don't know if that is the correct way to do it. :) - bosquederoble, May 26, 2015
Appearance. Sorry for the typo. :) - bosquederoble, May 27, 2015
