What we should not tolerate is intolerance itself.

I find that indifference toward others is often more insidious than intolerance, and what I think is paramount (implied arrogance here).

En todas las sociedades hay comportamientos que no se permiten de sus miembros, y distintas sociedades tienen distintas cosas que no toleran. Y cuando una sociedad tiene intolerancias muy diferentes de otra sociedad, esas sociedades pueden tener dificultades en aguantarse. Por ejemplo, no tengo mucha paciencia por las sociedades que toleran la violencia contra las mujeres. Espero que no es arrogancia por mi parte.
Every society has behaviors that are not allowed from their members, and different societies have distinct things that they don't tolerate. And when one society has intolerances very different from another society, those societies can have difficulty in putting up with each other. For example I have little patience for societies that tolerate violence against women. I hope that is not arrogance on my part.
