There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Please encourage everyone with a vote. smile

.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game. .

Instructions for posting a picture

Examples:

1. ¡No te cortes los dedos mientras estés cortando los vegetales!

Don't cut your fingers while you're chopping the vegetables!

2. Intentaron hablar con su tío en Bolivia pero se les cortó la llamada.

They were trying to talk to their uncle in Bolivia but the call got cut off. .

Enjoy Your Tuesday

I wanted to make a phonecall via Skype, in order to speak to my daughter but the line was disconnected, even though there is no line, just wi-fi. I don't understand how these things work, it seems that the very air we breathe so happily is full of words, although we can neither see nor hear them, yet they manage to get to other countries, like birds passing by without landing.. This is a mystery of modern life.

Cuando cocino, normalmente corto todos los vegetales a mano, porque no me gusta la ausencia de control sobre el tamaño y la forma de los trozos que viene de usar un procesador ** como quedan con la procesadora** de alimentos (robot de cocina), y, porque a mi esposa no le gusta cortar vegetales, con frecuencia los corto cuando ella cocina también.

porque no me gusta como quedan con la procesadora

When I cook, normally I cut all the vegetables by hand, because I don’t like the lack of control over the size and shape of the pieces that comes from using a food processor, and, because my wife does not like to cut vegetables, often I cut them when she cooks as well.

Are you a good cook? - rac1, Mar 24, 2015
My friends and family all think so. My wife is a good cook as well- and we tend to make different things. I don't bake or do any deserts though. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 24, 2015
wow robot de cocina sounds kind of futurist :p 'la falta de control...que vienen...' what do you think about doing it more natural? 'porque no me gusta como quedan con la procesadora' :D - Pablo064, Mar 24, 2015
another tip 'con frecuencia' is okay but you can use 'siempre' and it doesn't mean that you always do it I mean don't take it so literal when you say 'siempre' on this context it involves frecuencia too & it'll make you sound more natural 'siempre los.' - Pablo064, Mar 24, 2015
Gracias, Tiempo. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 24, 2015
My guess is that the "robot" term might be Spain? I need to practice with quedar more. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 24, 2015
good sentence :) - Joydeep_Singh, Mar 24, 2015
yep I googled it and I saw only pages '.es', my recommendation is: yes practice the verb 'quedar' - Pablo064, Mar 24, 2015

Cuando fui a la peluqeria andaluza me preguntaron si me gustaría que me pele , no me han dicho nada de cortarlo, pero a menos me han cobrado solo 11 euros, es algo.

When I went to the Andalucían hairdressers , I was asked if I wanted to be peeled. Just having a haircut was not mentioned, but, at least it only cost 11 euros, that' something.

Cuando cortan el pelo por primera vez a los niños, generalmente ellos son muy asustados. Tal vez piensan que los amenaza un gran peligro.

When they cut their hair for the first time to children, they are usually very frightened. Perhaps they think that a great danger threatens them.

Mi tipo favorito de café en Espana es un cortado (se llama así porque el café es "cortado" con leche). Con dos cigarillos y una bollería, es un desayuno de campeones.

My favourite type of coffee in Spain is a cortado (its called this because the coffee is "cut" with milk). With two cigarettes and a pastry, its a breakfast of champions.

En la colonia de Nueva Gales del Sur, cortaron el centro

de una moneda de oro,(Los reales españolas) para duplicar el valor.

In the colony of New South Wales ,they cut out the center of a gold coin,

( the Spanish reales)to double the value.

The holey dollar was created to address a shortage of coins in the new colony. Governor Lachlan Macquarie imported 40,000 Spanish reales in 1812 and had convicted forger William Henshall cut the centre out of each, to double the number of available coins. The coins were counterstamped and the outer ring became known as the holey dollar, with the centre renamed the dump.
