Reading and pronunciation

I am a total beginner. I do not know how to pronounce the words properly and I know some French and Italian so I'm confusing the three. Is there a page on this site with a simple FAQ or something for beginner readers? Thank you.

Hi Jules and welcome to the forum,

Here is a resource learning page with many useful sources on this site. I will also be putting some alphabet resources here.

As Bosque said, there is a sound Icon on many words in the dictionary and also the flashcard section where you can hear the word pronounced.

Good luck!

Hello Jules,

Welcome to the SpanishDict forum. :smile

You said/asked:

Jules, as someone who is learning 4 languages Spanish, French , Brazilian Portuguese and Italian, I can speak from experience when I say that when you are (anyone is) either receiving classes in a particular language or doing your own private study, it is usually best to focus on learning and studying each language separately (ie:on a different day of the week and at a different time) until you reach a time (stage) that you are fairly competent and confident in at least one of the two/or two of the four languages that you can speak, so that you can move between them without getting mixed up! wink

Js Chenk is right in saying that Paralee's teachings will give you a good start ..they will provide you with a good foundation for your Spanish! wink

Here is a link to the Spanish Alphabet on Utube pronounced by a Spanish speaking native. Please click on this link to listen to the alphabet:and copy the pronounciation: enter link description here

Here, Anna gives more detailed explanation of the different sounds in letter groupings enter link description here

I hope this helps smile

Gracias, Feliz77 for those great links!! I am not currently studying any other language. My confusion is because I just simply do not know the rules of reading in Spanish. I will learn! Thank you again!

I was hoping there was an alphabet page. I'm the kind of the learner who likes to learn all things of one kind at once. Everyone has different learning styles. I'm sure I can find this on the Web somewhere if I do want it. Gracias por toda su ayuda.

Gracias! I started using the Fluencia learning program last night. I didn't see that there was another one on this site.

Many of the entries in the dictionary have a sound icon, or even a video, and many are spoken by native speakers, that will help with questions on individual words. - bosquederoble, Dec 17, 2014
