frito vs freído - Which is correct as a past participle?

Is it regional to use one or the other? Or do you use one with estar and nouns such as "El huevo está frito" or "Las papas fritas" ... and the other with haber "Yo he freído el huevo"?

Both are correct as past participles but frito is more commonly used .. both can be used interchangeably as past partciples (participios) but I would recommend that you go with frito .. though I have no native experience or exposure but I know frito is much more widely used and sounds more natural to Spanish ears ...

and you can also use both as adjectives (As any past participle) with the verb estar or directly with the noun.. example .. estoy frito de este calor (figurative)... las papas fritas/freídas (but papas fritas is what is actually used in common language though gramatically both are correct).. no se debiera comer la comida frita/freída si se quisiera quedarse saludable (one must not eat fried food if one wishes to stay healthy).. so grammatically and in theory you may use both interchangeably .. but I would advise you to go with frito but you should know both as if some one else my use the other one, you should be able to understand ..

You can also use the conjugate functionality (all the way up top) in future to look up the participles for any verb ..
