la medicina ( meh-dee-see'-nah )

(noun) medicine

Sylyon1976 is the official corrector for the Spanish sentences. Please correct your posts according to her suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game to help with using a new vocabulary word! Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Hi, Aran. It's so good to see you, amigo. :):):) - rac1, Sep 16, 2013
En el siglo XX hubo muchos avances importantes en medicina. We don't have plural for "hay", "habrá" and "hubo". And the article before "medicina" is not used most of time, it sounds a little weird. - caiser, Sep 17, 2013
Gracias a todos. - rac1, Sep 19, 2013

En la Antigüedad la medicina fue el campo de actividad de chamanes, brujas, monjes, y filósofos. Después de la Edad de la Razón se volvió el estudio de científocos científicos y botánicos, y ahora es el negocio de compañías farmacéuticas (farma grande – in la habla de hoy) (las grandes farmaceúticas - en el lenguaje actual).

In the olden days medicine was the domain of shamans, witches, monks and philosophers. After The Age of Reason it became the study of scientists and botanists, and now is the business of pharmaceutical companies (big pharma – in modern parlance).

The Shamans witches and monks are still there mate , "Ten cuidado". - ray76, Sep 16, 2013
Antigüedad is a proper name and it is capitalized. And "Después de la Edad de la Razón paso a ser estudio..." - caiser, Sep 17, 2013
caiser, please, be very meticulous when correcting. It's "pasó", not "paso". That's not a problem to me because I am a native and probably Jubilado knows too (he is an advanced learner) but others might get confused. :) Thanks for your help! - 00483d91, Sep 18, 2013

Ten cuidado cuando viaje en avión , necesita documentación de un médico,

para las medicinas que usted lleva. Esto evitará mucha vergüenza.

Mejor traducción,- Ten cuidado cuando viajes en avión. Si tomas medicinas o

medicamentos necesitas tener documentos de tu doctor que lo comprueben. Esto te

evitará pasar vergüenzas.

Be careful when travelling by plane, you need documents from a Doctor ,

for the medicines that you take .This will avoid much embarrassment .

I know , I did not have, I felt like a criminal , and I was embarrassed !

Pienso que si nos tomamos el tiempo para disfrutar la vida (en especial fuera de la casa), y descansamos lo debido, no habría tanta necesidad de tomar medicinas.

I think that if we take time to enjoy life (especially outdoors), and rest as we should, there would not be so much need to be taking drugs/medicine. enter image description here

Si tienes dolor crónico y tienes que tomar un opiáceo, es mejor guardar tus medicinas en un lugar cerrado con llave, porque parece que incluso miembros de tu propia familia podrían decidir robarlas.

If you have chronic pain and have to take an opiate, it is better to keep your medicines in a place that is under lock and key, because it seems that even members of your own family could decide to steal them.

Narcótico es más amplio que opiáceo, por ejemplo es clorofórmo es un narcótico y no se usa como analgésico. - caiser, Sep 17, 2013
It sounds better to me: "porque parece ser que incluso los miembros de tu propia..." - caiser, Sep 17, 2013
