Both have the same meaning, to stop from doing...
Pare! = Deténgase! = Stop!
Parar also means to stand/erect.
Detener also means to be put under custody.
etc etc
Para means for (or "to" in certain contexts) and detener means to stop. Two completely different words. You could've typed them into the translator up above.
i put them in google translate and both of them were translated to "stop". and i've heard "para" used for "stop the car". I know what is para as usual...
