In Spanish the context and/or time frame is necessary to know how to translate verbs in the past as there is more than one past tense. You need to provide more information. Also, it is the custom in the forum to give your try at the translation and an explanation of it would be even better to show that you have made an effort yourself first. Saludos

Hay, Hubo and Había are the three forms used to express there is/are, there was/were.

Hay is present tense, Hubo is preterite tense, and Había is imperfect tense.

They can also be used in questions to mean ¿Is/Are there?, ¿Was/Were there?
