Ecuadorian slang.

Ecuadorian slang.

A Latin American friend of mine told me that there is a phrase which they use for 'pulling your leg', as we would say in England. To tease somebody, or to have a joke at their expense. The phrase is something like 'drinking your hair', (tomando el pelo). Has anyone come across this phrase? I know a Mexican who has never heard of it, and I would like to know if it is only used in Ecuador, before I use it in Spain! Muchas gracias mi amigos.

Pulling hair, not drinking. How could I have been so stupid? - Notengonodinero, May 31, 2013

En Argentina también lo usamos. ¿Vos me estás tomando el pelo?

One of the translations for tease is tomar el pelo.

Hi there, are you thinking of 'tomadura de pelo'? I learned that one from a friend of mine.

Yes it's tomando el pelo, taking or pulling someone's hair.

No te preocupes, solo estoy tomando el pelo.

Don't worry I'm just having you on.

"He is just pulling your chain" (US). - EugenioCosta, May 31, 2013
"Pulling your pigtails" never got to be an idiom, but once upon a time it was very close to it, and also, sorrily, asymmetric. - EugenioCosta, May 31, 2013
Only if one pigtail is longer than the other :-) - 0095ca4c, May 31, 2013
Jeje. The other asymmetry is that it applied mainly to males pulling pigtails of females, and worse. - EugenioCosta, May 31, 2013

I've seen that before in a series of books by the author Isabel Allende, who I believe is Chilean. I think it is fairly widely used, if I'm not mistaken...
