Sad to say rac1 I, sort of, take issue with "proper pronunciation". Who pronounces American English "properly"? Is it someone from Boston or from Atlanta or wherever else? Who or what is your authority? - geofc, Nov 12, 2012

Mostly "Jo" is RioPlatense, that is Argentina in the Buenos Aires area and Uruguay on the other side of the river.

When I lived in Buenos Aires I bought a vacuum cleaner labelled "Yelmo Jet". It was locally pronounced "Jelmo Yet". I'm not kidding. Life is not always simple and as expected.

Memort (probably faulty) says that there is a tendency to use "Jo" in Gallicia too - or do I mean Valencia. Confusing. - geofc, Nov 12, 2012
