Why do you learn Spanish?
Hey everyone, as I'm new here and I'm always curious to meet new people and to talk about my interests (and learning foreign languages is one of them), I just like to ask you, why did you come up with the idea of learning Spanish?

I think that every language is a color, I like very much making a rainbow

I decided to learn Spanish because I love learning languages, and I went with Spanish because I love communicating with people in their native language. There are LOTS of Spanish-speaking countries, so it was an easy choice. Take my advice, language-learning people- Spanish is a whole lot easier then Ancient Greek![]()
I decided to learn Spanish because I want to sell out my painting in Spain. I love to draw and sketch. Many friends of mine have advised me to become an artist as I am good at drawing
And I don't know why, I just love Spain .
Though I am from India , I give equal respect to both of them ,I give equal importance to them![]()
OK. First of all, I am learning Spanish because it is something I have wanted to do since forever and didnt have the time to devote to it before. Now I do. Also, Spanish is a language that has always intrigued me. I also know that it is, I believe, the third most spoken language in the world, so almost anywhere I may go, there will be people speaking Spanish. It is also a great hobby! And, last but not least, I dont wish to lose my mental faculties as I grow older, and I figured learning a new language could certainly help in that direction.
I live in the United States. There are many Spanish speakers here. I hear them speaking Spanish, and I have discovered that I like Spanish a lot. For that reason, I am studying and learning Spanish.
Well, I never woke up one day deciding to learn Spanish. It was a year and a half ago at the end of Spanish 1 in high school when I fell in love with the language, but I didn't have any idea why. I didn't know then that it was for a reason that God had given me a passion for the wonderful Spanish language, but I did know that I loved it so I asked my best friend Jesus Christ to use my Spanish for his own purposes. And, well, He has given me tons of oportunities to use the gift of Spanish He's given me, such as visiting an orphanage in Mexico. I've had so many opportunities to use my Spanish that I wouldn't have had if I didn't know how to speak it, and that's why I learn it so diligently.
It is not only the Spanish language I want to learn, but also a new culture, the Latin one.
When I am on holiday I like to travel abroad, especially in sunny countries, like Spain.(You know, here in England rains quite much.). It is my opinion that if I visit a country and I speak the tongue of the inhabitants I would show more respect to them, and also more respect towards myself by doing this.
I know an old Hungarian saying: each language is adding something new to your personality. this means each language you know contributes to your personal growth.
I want to read Spanish literature in Spanish - and when I read it I can already understand 80-90% of it. I am looking forward to read Garcia Marquez, Neruda, Borjes, Llosa in the original language. Probably I will enjoy them more than when I read them translated.
wow I'm very about all those great responses, thanks a lot!
And as some ask me back in return, I won't wait for an answer and tell you my reasons:
I once had Spanish as a subject in school but I was a lazy teen and I didn't take the chance given, but I always loved Spain and the culture, the people, their way of life and the language. My family and I used to spent all our holidays in Spain, far away from where tourists would go so I've always been surrounded by the real Spanish culture. As a child, you manage to communicate with people without speaking nor understanding their language, as an adult, you want to be able to communicate without borders. I spent several weeks in 2011 in Spain doing a intense 101 course in Spanish that helped me a lot and I try to study a bit every day since for myself.
In long term, I see myself living in Spain and I want to speak Spanish like a mothertongue. I know that this is a hard goal to achieve but I'm working hard on it.
I honour my father's mother, to communicate with a growing population y culture in Oklahoma, to be able to read y appreciate the liturature. All be well y SAFE.
Honestly, as a hobby. Just to fill time.
I learn Spanish because first my parents made me (and I didn't like it) but now I love it and I want to learn as much as I can. I love foreign languages, and besides that, Spanish is most useful language you can possibly learn (besides possibly English and Chinese). I love the sound, the music, and the culture. I take great pleasure in reading books by such writers as Isabel Allende in their original language. It's great fun.
