For use of the Site Admin - Problems in the Chat
Buen día gente,
I've been here a long time and seen alot of odd things (and their resolutions) but there is a new one at hand. I've watched it for a little over a week straight now and the Chat is slowly but surely digressing. I don't believe the Chat is outside of Span¡shD!ct rules, and this is where I have chosen to pass my time instead of the forum after the fallout. There is mostly just a repeated offender or two that I'm on to see. They engage in slum-dog style fighting, curse other people, and all of this is a result of them getting angry because of something silly. For example someone corrects them and they don't agree. This results in them going on a tyrant, and ranting for as long as 10 minutes! This has been an issue in the forum before which was addressed accordingly. Now we don't have moderators and the Admin clearly need help. I've taken the liberty of screenshotting a small amount of this friction, which you can see below. Unfortunately I was unable to capture the initial break in discussion due to connection errors on my work computer, all too typical.
However to give a brief background, the disagreement stemmed from the incorrect translation of the word "linda". Now of course this word can be easily tossed around, but the offender was a beginner instructing another beginner that the word meant "cutie" and insisted this was the proper meaning. When corrected and a more proper translation was provided, the offender went on a rant. Obviously this is the less offensive language, but enough to get my point across. I won't be offended if this thread is deleted, but I wanted to bring this to the attention of all and publicly offer my assistance to preserve something I still enjoy. Hopefully it will be recieved and duly noted.
Saludos,
DJ ((( d(-_-)b )))

Hello Huero. I haven't been on this site for very long, and the first thing I noticed was, how friendly everybody is. I've been 'corrected' a couple of times, but instead of hurting my pride (and I'm a Leo!) I was grateful for the fact that it was improving my Spanish, and I always send a comment notice back saying "Thankyou". People who have 'psychological' problems and can't handle CONSTRUCTIVE criticism shouldn't really be on this site. Having said that. The person making the correction should also use diplomacy when choosing their words. I normally add a bit of humour into my correcting...it seems to work well! Kindest regards...Jool.
I reported a similar issue yesterday. Someone was banned after a fight and signed up again with another name. I sent them that information. Please let us try to stop these attacks in the chat.
Agreed sanlee. You just sparked the idea for me, but, maybe Admin can attempt to utilize a IP blocking function. This would prevent repeated offenders from returning. ![]()
santo cielo!
It appears that the chat has been over-run by immature talkers. I suggested to Martha that the Chat be restricted by seniority (reputation, badges, etc.) so that serious learners will use it. This may not be possible with this chat, but it is a start.
I agree, DJ, that the Chat is directly connected to SD and that the same rules must apply, e.g., be nice, make friends, no offensive language, etc. It's great that you are paying attention and letting the Admin know what's going on.
I'm not too familiar with how the Chat works; however, It's a bit silly that a random member is made "Moderator" of the chat without some sort of qualifications and can actually ban other members from the chat.
Hey, Huero, I agree. One of the reasons I'm leaving.... anyway, what info you have for me? please don't have it be bad news.
